“I was overjoyed to join the team visiting the Nsawam prisons in Ghana. The journey was arduous, with long stretches of roadwork, but our anticipation kept us going. Upon arrival, I was struck by the imposing walls, but as we entered the prison grounds, I saw the inmates up close. My heart sank, yet amidst the solemnity, I noticed the beauty of the green plants that seemed to bring a sense of calm. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. As we made our way to the chapel, I couldn’t help but wonder about the stories behind each face. The inmates, from different backgrounds and with varied offenses (child trafficking, murder, theft, drugs, illegal export) sat before us. Our meeting began with vibrant drumming and worship songs, and despite the mixed emotions, we joined in. After a presentation on behalf of Empower a Woman, a charity inspired by Rev. Amanda, the inmates received bags of toiletries in celebration of Menstrual Hygiene Day. Reflecting on this experience, I realized that we all have our own ‘prisons’ or challenges. May we strive to break free from the chains that bind us and may the Lord deliver us from the evil one. Thank you, Rev. Amanda, for inspiring this journey of freedom and love.”
